AFP-NYC Celebrates New York Stories in Philanthropy

The 2017 AFP-NYC National Philanthropy Day Breakfast presents New York Stories in Philanthropy – the inspiring journeys of individuals who have made a difference in the lives of people in New York City and throughout the world.

Join emcee Veronica Dagher, senior wealth management reporter at The Wall Street Journal and host of the Secrets of Wealthy Women podcast, with our celebrated guests:

Jonelle Procope, President  & CEO, Apollo Theatre

Hear the story of Jonelle‘s rise from entertainment law and media-related corporate affairs to her  current position leading  one of New York’s iconic cultural institutions.  Jonelle became the CEO of the Apollo Theatre in 2003  after serving on its Board for two years. Established in 1914 as Hurtig & Seamon’s New Burlesque Theatre in Harlem, the music hall was later designated as a New York City Landmark and added to the National Register of Historic Places, and is  visited by 1.3 million people every year.

Anthony D. Romero, Executive Director, American Civil Liberties Union

Anthony took the helm of the American Civil Liberties Union seven days before the September 11, 2001 attacks. Under his leadership,  the ACLU has pursued litigation challenging some of the greatest injustices of our time, including: winning the freedom to marry for same-sex couples; a nationwide campaign to depopulate the prisons and jails by 50 percent; the representation of Edward Snowden. Romero is the ACLU's sixth executive director and the first Latino and openly gay man to serve in that capacity.

In partnership with Original Tales, AFP-NYC is also proud to feature exclusive video presentations of the aspirational journeys of:

Cecile Richards, President, Planned Parenthood Federation of America

Emily Kernan Rafferty, President Emerita, Metropolitan Museum of Art

Debora Spar, President, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts

Register today to hear the stories of these legendary leaders and others.
