Job Description: 

The Director of Development for the School of Business reports to the Executive Director of the NJCU Foundation and is responsible for developing and managing a portfolio of 150 major gift prospects with interests in business.  Responsibilities include the identification, strategic cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and other activities related to seeking major investments in the School.

 

The Director of Development is a key member of the University’s Foundation team and as such, expected to collaborate with colleagues across the University to improve the accuracy of Raiser’s edge data, to develop quality engagement and stewardship opportunities and to maximize the giving experience for donors and prospects.

 

Key duties:

 

  • Soliciting and closing gifts of $25,000+ through face-to-face cultivation, solicitation and stewardship, including renewals, upgrades and continuous strategic identification of new major gift prospects. (75%)
  • Working collaboratively with the senior leadership of the University, the Dean and faculty of the School as well as fellow Foundation teammates to strengthen relationships with major gift donors and prospects.
  • Managing a portfolio of approximately 150 major gift donors and prospects.
  • Developing and implementing short and long-term strategies for significant revenue growth from donors and prospects with the capacity to make gifts of $25,000 or more.
  • Implementing a moves management plan for major gift prospects in collaboration with the School’s Dean, faculty and staff which secures major investments for the University and promotes a sustained culture of philanthropy.
  • Maintaining working knowledge of the School’s programmatic priorities and initiatives as they occur. (10%)
  • Managing all information related to major donors and prospects within the assigned portfolio in a central database, in a manner that emphasizes the highest standards of data integrity. (5%)
  • Guiding the Dean in populating the Dean’s School of Business Advisory Board, which supports the Dean’s vision and the School’s fundraising priorities. (5%)
  • Developing and managing the School’s Development budget. (5%)

 

Professional Background

 

  • Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree or CFRE preferred.
  • Six+ years of proven successful experience in closing major and planned gifts and grants of $25,000+, preferably in higher education.
  • Experience in developing cases for support, proposals and stewardship reports.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and demonstrated tact and diplomacy in working with a wide variety of personalities.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism, confidentiality, ethical sensitivity and discretion.
  • An entrepreneurial, self-starter work ethic with the ability to independently make sound decisions. 
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with ability to create, advance and evaluate strategic initiatives.
  • Leadership experience in managing cross-collaborative teams and projects.
  • Willingness to travel and to work evenings and weekends.
