JOB PURPOSE

The Manager of Volunteer Engagement works within the External Engagement team to cultivate individuals, corporations, and organizations to help achieve the annual fundraising goal of Educational Alliance. The Manager will create opportunities to engage prospective and current donors through volunteer projects, site visits, and other strategies.

SCOPE OF INFLUENCE

  • Work on the engagement of individuals, synagogues, corporations, and families through volunteer opportunities
  • Collaborate with External Engagement staff to engage current and prospective donors
  • Collaborate with all programs and staff across the agency

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Volunteer Engagement (40%)

  • Coordinate volunteer activities for donors and prospects
    • Work to identify the program that best fits volunteer interest
    • Liaise with program staff on planning, scheduling, and staffing each volunteer visit
    • Plan for any activities, crafts, food, etc. at the event
    • Schedule the Executive Team’s participation if necessary
    • Staff all volunteer events: greet volunteers, have them follow sign-in procedure, give an agency overview, introduce them to the program and the volunteer event, and oversee event
    • Follow up with volunteers after their experience to engage them further 
  • Create a calendar of potential volunteer events to share with prospective volunteers
  • Work with program staff to identify volunteer needs in each program
  • Cultivate relationships with key contacts at corporations, organizations, and with individuals
  • Staff the Educational Alliance’s teen and bar/bat mitzvah volunteer initiatives 
  • Develop strategies to solicit volunteers
  • Maintain volunteer data for Educational Alliance for financial and other reporting needs

UJA Liason (40%)

  • Work with UJA to schedule, coordinate, and manage volunteer group events, honoree site visits, and donor visits
    • Work to identify the program that best fits volunteer interest
    • Liaise with program staff on planning, scheduling, and staffing each volunteer visit
    • Plan for any activities, crafts, food, etc. at the event
    • Schedule the Executive Team’s participation if necessary

  • Create a calendar of events and list of volunteer opportunities to provide to UJA
  • Cultivate relationships with key UJA staff members and lay leaders

Event Support (10%)

  • Support fundraising and cultivation events including but not limited to the Annual Gala, low dollar fundraising events, and Trustee events

Other (10%)

  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as required
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 3-5 years of relevant professional work experience in fundraising or volunteer management 
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills
  • Team player and a passion to build relationships with internal and external collaborators 
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to handle matters in courteous and friendly manner
  • Proactive, hands on approach, as well as a professional work ethic
  • Self-motivated, highly efficient, strong attention to details
  • Ability to work in high pressure environment autonomously 
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Raiser’s Edge proficiency preferred, but not required
  • Able to work a flexible schedule as needed (evenings and weekends)
