Job Description

The Associate Director of Annual Giving will be an integral part of the Annual Giving Team within the Office of Development for the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons (VP&S), Columbia University Irving Medical Center. The incumbent will report to the Executive Director of Development, Annual Giving. She/he will develop and implement a comprehensive annual giving plan including but not limited to alumni from VP&S, the Institute of Human Nutrition, Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy. The Associate Director will also be responsible for a Leadership Annual Giving program for unassigned donors of $10k+ to <$1M, helping to transition them to major gift portfolios. This includes creating personalized and innovative approaches for program growth. The Associate Director’s primary focus will be coordinating solicitation and outreach, vendor management, data analysis and reporting, and creating/managing program budgets.

Essential Functions

  1. Develop and execute the VP&S annual giving programs including mail, peer to peer fundraising, e-solicitations and phoneathons. –40%
  2. Create and implement a successful program for grateful patient/ donor leadership annual gift solicitations to retain current and re-engage lapsed donors, increase giving, and grow the major gift pipeline. –35%
  3. Prepare reports on program outcomes to inform decision making and provide regular updates to management. – 10%
  4. Develop and edit appeal letters. – 5%
  5. Prepare and manage program budgets. – 5%
  6. Other duties and special projects as assigned. – 5%

Minimum Qualifications

Requires Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education, training and experience plus three years related experience in annual giving or development. Ability to organize and manage, as well as take initiative and work independently required.  Must possess strong writing and analytical skills and have experience maintaining data and information in a fundraising database, such as Advance. Advanced Microsoft Office skills are required. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills necessary. Attention to detail and an ability to foster strong teamwork while simultaneously able to work independently will be essential.
