Chief Development Officer
New Alternatives for Children
New York, NY 10010
New Alternatives for Children (NAC) was founded in 1982 on the belief that every child deserves a safe, nurturing home and bright future. NAC has developed innovative support programs for birth, foster, and adoptive families caring for children with special needs and has become one of the top rated child welfare agencies in New York City. NAC’s extensive experience and focus on core services has earned the organization significant recognition, including an Adoption Excellence Award from the US Department of Health and Human Services, a Robert Wood Johnson Community Health Leader Award, and the Samuel P. Peabody Award for Community Activism.
NAC’s founder and Executive Director, Dr. Arlene Goldsmith, its excellent Development Staff, and engaged Board of Directors are committed fundraising partners. Over 35 years, NAC has built a strong philanthropic foundation. From that foundation, NAC continues to grow. A new state-of-the-art clinic space opened, allowing the medical and mental health clinics to expand. This will bring new and exciting opportunities for philanthropic engagement. To this dynamic mix, NAC wants to add a Chief Development Officer (CDO) to occupy a newly created leadership role. Working with an already proven Development staff, the new CDO will have the opportunity to shape a new philanthropic vision for NAC.
Reporting directly to the Executive Director, Dr. Arlene Goldsmith, and accountable to the Board of the Directors, the CDO will be responsible for increasing philanthropic revenue, as well as supporting the mission of NAC. The CDO, in this newly created position, will lead a dynamic team of five development staff members who have substantial expertise in producing special events and in foundation and government proposal writing. In recent years, the development team has successfully raised between $4M – $6M annually, which is an essential part of an over $22M operations budget.
The ideal candidate will have the opportunity to improve outcomes with individuals, corporations, and foundations. The CDO will be a dedicated fundraising leader with an established track record of increasing philanthropic revenue and a charismatic, creative individual capable of increasing NAC’s public profile.
