The Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum seeks a creative and energetic individual to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individuals for major gifts. Duties include expanding the Museum’s donor community; creating and implementing innovative strategies for securing major gifts; managing a portfolio of prospects; and preparing proposals and other donor communications. The position is based in New York, NY and reports to the Associate Director, Strategic Development, Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum.
Progressive fundraising experience, a drive to succeed, and ability to close major gifts should be demonstrated in your application. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; the ability to meet frequent/changing deadlines; and arts and humanities knowledge are essential to success. Three plus years of experience in gifts fundraising at a national organization is desired. Experience in complex higher education or a large cultural organization is preferred.
Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum is the only museum in the nation devoted exclusively to historic and contemporary design. Cooper Hewitt educates, inspires, and empowers people through design by presenting exhibitions and educational programs and maintaining active publications.
