Director of Special Events
The Actors Fund, a nationwide human services organization that helps all professionals in performing arts and entertainment, seeks a Director of Special Events to produce special events in the New York area and on the East Coast, working with the CEO, Chief Advancement Officer and Events team to develop strong relationships within the performing arts and entertainment community to find ways to increase involvement, revenues, commitment and fundraising activities.
The Director of Special Events will coordinate the production, marketing and fundraising campaigns for all Actors Fund special events, including two annual Galas, “Special Performances” (9th performances of Broadway shows) and other events in the New York area and on the East Coast, including Florida. The Director of Special Events will work with Actors Fund Trustees, Senior Management and the Events team to strategize and solicit sponsorships and leadership for these events. In addition, she/he will identify and secure high profile honorees who can help attract said sponsors. Responsibilities include the monitoring of budgets, recruiting volunteers and committee members, implementing fundraising campaigns, coordinating talent relations, venue logistics including food & beverage, audio visual and other elements appropriate to the particular event. The Director will oversee all aspects of each production, serving as Executive Producer on behalf of The Fund and requires close contact with outside creative and production personnel, as well as working closely with the Advancement staff. She/He will supervise a team of four.
The Director will work under the Chief Advancement Officer and with the Manager of Special Events to schedule “Special Performances” or blocks of tickets for productions whose runs do not allow for an added performance.
The Director will serve as an integral member of the Advancement team, helping to plan and develop strategy for all Actors Fund special events, meeting regularly for planning and developing strategy for all Actors Fund development activities. The Director will develop an annual work plan and budget and will create, write and/or edit communications that are associated with these events as requested (i.e. program journals).
The successful candidate will organize and implement the annual major donor dinner in conjunction with the Membership team and the annual legacy society event in conjunction with Manager of Planned Giving and take on other tasks and responsibilities as necessary at the discretion of the Chief Advancement Officer and/or CEO.
A bachelor’s degree and at least seven years producing fundraising events are required; knowledge of the theater and performing arts and entertainment community is a plus.
Additionally, the successful candidate will have:
- Exceptional organizational, communications, computer and writing skills.
- Superior project management skills and ability to manage multiple simultaneous fundraising initiatives.
- Strong supervisory experience and proven track record in leading a team to meet its goals.
- Experience in negotiating effectively and soliciting donated and discounted goods and services.
- Ability to motivate others and to form productive relationships with a wide variety of contractors, producers, talent, donors, vendors, staff and volunteers.
Experience in Raisers Edge/Patrons Edge applications or other fundraising database platforms
- This position requires evening and weekend hours to plan, execute and attend Actors Fund events, in addition to the regular commitment of standard office hours. Some out-of-state travel required.

This is a full-time salaried position based in The Actors Fund’s National Headquarters Office in Times Square, New York City.
